Fri, 03 Sep 2010 01:15:28 PDT- No news most likely is good news for Don Nelson and Larry Riley as they spend their summers wondering if they're going to be employed by the Warriors again this season.
It has been widely speculated that both Nelson, the team's head coach, and Riley, the organization's general manager, will be replaced when the club's new ownership—a group led by Joe Lacob—formally takes over control of the club later this month or in October. The question is: When will the terminations occur? While Lacob technically cannot make moves until the sale is complete, that hasn't prevented him from potentially discussing his coach's and general manager's futures with his partners and even possibly having his "people" talk to the "people" of prospective replacement candidates. ...

Fri, 03 Sep 2010 04:14:08 GMT-ARRIVALS:
--G Charlie Bell (trade with Bucks).
--G Jeremy Lin (undrafted free agent).
--G Jannero Pargo (free agent from Bulls).
--F Dorell Wright (free agent from Heat).
--F David Lee (trade with Knicks).
--C Dan Gadzuric (trade with Bucks).
DEPARTURES:
--G C.J. Watson (traded to Bulls).
--G Anthony Morrow (traded to Nets).
--F Corey Maggette (traded to Bucks).
--F Kelenna Azubuike (traded to Knicks).
--F Anthony Randolph (traded to Knicks).
--C Ronny Turiaf (traded to Knicks).
PLAYER NOTES:
--G Stephen Curry's participation on the United States entry in the World Championships this summer formally stamps him as the face of the Warriors' franchise moving forward. Curry and recently acquired David Lee are the two untradeable assets in the organization, even if new ownership has gone out of its way to insist Monta Ellis should be considered a part of that group.
--C Andris Biedrins has had a long summer even without doing much. His name often is mentioned when Don Nelson's future is discussed because Biedrins is considered yet another example of Nelson's failure to develop big men. And almost every time the club is mentioned in a trade rumor, Biedrins is in the middle of it. Most recently, he has been part of a package the Warriors could offer in attempt to pluck Carmelo Anthony from the Nuggets.
--C Dan Gadzuric learned his first game in Milwaukee as a member of the Bucks' opponent will come early in the season -- Nov. 13 on the Warriors' first extended road trip of the season. The former UCLA standout was the Bucks' second-round pick in 2002. He came to the Warriors this summer as part of the Corey Maggette trade.

Fri, 03 Sep 2010 04:14:05 GMT---The Warriors entered September with 13 players signed to guaranteed contracts. But being approximately $7 million under the luxury-tax threshold would allow them to add a 14th if they so desire.
The name most commonly linked to the Warriors in the late summer was Louis Amundson, a free agent power forward who played for the Suns the last two seasons.
Likely the thing that has stalled the potential signing is the uncertainty over Brandan Wright, who had to cut short his summer league stint because of a sore left shoulder. He underwent surgery on the same shoulder during training camp last year, effectively ending his season before it started.
With first-round draft pick Ekpe Udoh (thumb) likely to miss at least the first month of the season, the Warriors probably would need to pick up an additional backup to David Lee at power forward should Wright's troubles linger.
But if Wright survives training camp, and with Vladimir Radmanovic capable of swinging over to the power forward position if necessary, the position would be solid enough to avoid having to give out a 14th guaranteed contract.
--The date all Warriors fans have been waiting for since "The Decision" was finally announced last month: Dec. 10. That's the night LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat will make their one and only Oakland appearance this season.
Other circled dates on the 2010-11 schedule: Oct. 27 vs. Rockets (Warriors' opener at home), Nov. 10 at New York (David Lee's first return after leaving as a free agent), Dec. 25 vs. Trail Blazers (the first-ever home game on Christmas) and Jan. 12 vs. Lakers (start of a stretch in which the Warriors play a remarkable 13 of 14 at home).
--Adonal Foyle, who played 10 of his 13 NBA seasons with the Warriors, retired Aug. 13. The club's first-round pick, No. 8 overall, in 1997 announced he would like to become an NBA general manager someday.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "I think I made my decision this morning while using the bathroom. It just came to me." -- Anthony Tolliver, mimicking LeBron James while announcing he was leaving the Warriors as a free agent to sign with the Timberwolves.

Fri, 03 Sep 2010 04:14:02 GMT-No news most likely is good news for Don Nelson and Larry Riley as they spend their summers wondering if they're going to be employed by the Warriors again this season.
It has been widely speculated that both Nelson, the team's head coach, and Riley, the organization's general manager, will be replaced when the club's new ownership -- a group led by Joe Lacob -- formally takes over control of the club later this month or in October. While Lacob technically cannot make moves until the sale is complete, that hasn't prevented him from potentially discussing his coach's and general manager's futures with his partners and even possibly having his "people" talk to the "people" of prospective replacement candidates.
But it's been eerily quiet since Lacob spoke publicly in the immediate aftermath of the sale agreement. The lack of rumors leads many to believe nothing is happening.
And if indeed the new ownership waits to begin its search until the NBA officially hands over control of the team on the eve of training camp, the likelihood of Nelson and Riley returning for the 2010-11 season increases significantly.
Of course, one potential move that would require little or no conversation would be replacing Nelson with his current chief assistant, Keith Smart, on what might or might not be labeled an "interim" basis. That would buy additional time for the new group to weigh its coaching options while at the same time give Smart, recognized by some as an up-and-comer in the business, a chance to prove himself under fire.
Whether he coaches or not, Nelson is guaranteed $6 million this season.
